Fingertip Cracks Can be Avoided

Melissa Marsden

It can get confusing trying to figure out why your fingertips are cracking. Is it psoriasis? Eczema? Dermatitis? Dry skin? There are so many skin conditions out there. Good news, most skin conditions are treatable.

Let’s explore Psoriasis

If you have had psoriasis, then you know that it can be irritating and extremely itchy. Especially in the winter months it's only going to get worse. You may be experiencing cracks on your fingertips as well. Your cracked fingertips and cracked skin are caused by excessive dry skin (xerosis) due to the skin having lost its own natural oils. Without the oils that trap in the moisture, your skin dries out and shrinks, creating the cracks. Healthy and hydrated skin means that it retains its own oils, keeping the skin moisturized and smooth.

With the excessive amount of hand washing we are all doing this time of COVID-19, we are also experiencing an excessive amount of dry and cracked skin. The signs of psoriasis are mostly redness, itching, dryness, cracks, blistering and pain. Psoriasis is an autoimmune issue. It can appear as thick patches of skin with scales. A very common question is if psoriasis is contagious? And the answer is no. You cannot get psoriasis from or give it to another person.

Here are some types of psoriasis:

  • Plaque Psoriasis – this is the most common type and it usually appears on your knees, scalp, elbows, and lower back.
  • Inverse Psoriasis – This usually appears in the skin folds, such as under the breasts, armpits, and between your legs.
  • Guttate Psoriasis – This most often affects the torso and limbs.
  • Pustular Psoriasis – This will produce pus-filled sores.
  • Erythrodermic Psoriasis – This is the most rare form of Psoriasis and appears on the body with burn like rashes.

Psoriasis is very common, so you are not alone. Gloves In A Bottle Shielding Lotion is a fantastic lotion that can help with psoriasis and the cracks on your fingertips. Gloves In A Bottle is a type of lotion that bonds with the outer layer of skin cells and it enhances the skin's ability to retain natural oils and moisture.

"The results were ideal in helping me with dry hands. I am an optometrist in Toronto and also a partner in a company called Optego vision. As a health care professional I wash my hands 30-40 times daily and your shielding lotion has greatly helped in keeping my skin from cracking. My company supplies eye care professionals with varied optical products both in Canada and USA. Gloves In A Bottle would be a product which I am sure would be of interest to our customer base."
