New Eczema Treatment Study Links Blood Chemicals to Itching

Good news for eczema sufferers: scientists may have a lead on the cause of the itchiness. Although eczema can be somewhat unsightly when severe, the most annoying side effect is often the itch. Constantly scratching the area also exacerbates the condition, so getting rid of that itch will kill two birds with one stone. More studies are needed to determine exactly how this new information can be used to help eczema sufferers but, in the meantime, thousands of doctors now recommend a shielding lotion for eczema treatment to get the relief you need.

The study, which was published in the British Journal of Dermatology, was conducted on 28 children with eczema. Each of them wore a device called a DigiTrac monitor to record how much you scratch. The monitor was placed on the dominant wrist and set to record activity from 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. Researchers did not say whether the children were currently using eczema treatment products, or whether they stopped using it during the study.

The scientists found that the levels of two specific blood chemicals increased according to how much a child scratched.

Although the researchers aren’t certain what this information means as of yet, this is the first time they’ve found such a link and they’re hopeful it will lead to a cure for eczema or, at least, control the itching.

Although medicine has not found an eczema treatment that does more than control the symptoms, many are finding relief with a shielding lotion. Dr. Peter Helton, a dermatologist practicing in Newport Beach, California, has even been able to get some of his patients off medications:

“We have been very excited and happy with the results achieved using "Gloves In A Bottle". We have been treating hand eczema patients with it, applying their medication first in the morning, then applying 'Gloves In A Bottle' several times daily."

”We have achieved good results with your product such that the patients have been able to stop their medications and continue only with 'Gloves In A Bottle' to control their hand eczema condition."

"We are very happy with the use of your product, and I feel that it is one of the best moisturizing protective creams on the market.

"I have no reservations in prescribing 'Gloves In A Bottle' to patients with hand eczema. I also recommend it for people without a hand condition who want to protect their hands and keep them soft and supple."

If researchers follow up with further studies and find a cure, it could help millions of eczema sufferers. But, many have found a good shielding lotion to be all the eczema treatment they need.
