Eczema Treatment Revolves Around Controlling Your Environment

01/08/2008

Are you still trying to figure out what’s causing your eczema? A new study concluded that environmental factors are largely responsible for the problem. However, isolating which environmental factors are causing eczema is proving to be difficult. In fact, there are so many environmental influences it is unlikely that any one element will ever be isolated and, worse, it is unlikely that anything will be done about it. However, thousands of doctors are now recommending a shielding lotion as eczema treatment precisely because it protects against multiple environmental elements that could be the cause.

The new research, conducted by the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC), analyzed the results of two worldwide studies between 1991 and 2001 on 300,000 children aged 13 to 14 years and 190,000 children aged 6 to 7. These are the largest eczema studies ever done.

Why did the researchers conclude that the environment is the culprit? Primarily because changes in our genes take far longer to occur than the period of time between the two studies. In other words, not enough time elapsed between the two studies for ‘eczema genes’, if there is such a thing, to be passed on from mother or father to son or daughter.

What possible environmental factors could be causing eczema? The list is pretty long:

  • The prevalence of household cleaning products containing harsh and toxic chemicals.
  • Skin care products containing ingredients that irritate the skin – which is just about all of them.
  • Industrial pollutants that contaminate the air we contact and breathe.
  • Chemicals ingested in foods contaminated by the fall out from industrial pollutants – the mercury in fish is a good example.
  • Chemicals ingested in foods grown with pesticides, herbicides and other poisons.
  • Chemicals intentionally added to foods as preservatives, flavor enhancers, and so on.
  • Drugs, including those used for eczema treatment. The number of people taking drugs of one sort or another these days is really outrageous.
  • Depleted soil that is no longer capable of growing foods that support our nutritional needs.
  • Genetically-modified foods whose structure has been altered from what nature intended us to put in our bodies.

The list goes on and on. And because it’s so long, and because these factors are so woven into industrialized nations, they are unlikely to change without drastic measures by governments the world over. And the prevalence of eczema is unlikely to change until those measures are taken.
What can you do about it? You have the list above – how many of those things can you exclude from your life? Quite a few: you can eat organic foods grown on healthy soil without chemicals, you can stop using household, personal care and skin care products that with harmful chemical ingredients, you can limit your drug-taking to life-threatening situations and, instead, improve your health with good food, exercise and natural nutritional supplements, and, for the factors in the air that you cannot eliminate, you can use a shielding lotion.

A good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of skin to form a new protective layer that keeps out chemicals and pollutants.

A healthy lifestyle, along with a good shielding lotion, is the best eczema treatment and prevention protocol – and it is something you can control. You don’t have to wait for governments to figure out how to do it. Try it, and you will see the difference.
